Overview
In Texas, a student who wants to teach in grades 7-12 (secondary) mathematics or sciences must major in math or a science and minor in education. You will also have requirements besides the courses on your degree plan. As a Junior or Senior, you will apply to the Educator Preparation Program. Your last semester before graduation, you will student teach at a school. In between those events, you will take certification exams to become a teacher.
Once you decide to follow a path to a career as an educator, it is important to be aware of the requirements and steps leading to teacher certification. Creating a timeline for yourself is critical to completing your degree on your own schedule.
