Off Campus Events
GenTX
All over Texas, students are stepping up, finding their voices, and fueling the movement called Generation TX. Equal parts inspiration and information, Generation TX (spoken “Generation Texas”) connects us to each other and clarifies the steps we need to take on the path to college and career education, from taking the right classes and tests, to applying to colleges, and then finding the money to pay for school. Collegiate Mentors play an important role in planning and supporting GenTX events at Region 19 area high schools, middle and elementary schools.
Career Fairs
Collegiate mentors assist career fairs at Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, and High Schools to show the students in a fun way what college is about, what UTEP offers and many educational possibilities it brings to future students, as well as give advice on how to be involved in campus.
I Got Pick'd
The UTEP recruitment department is putting on Pep Rallies at area high schools to welcome graduating high school seniors who were admitted to the university and introduce them to college life at UTEP. This is a great opportunity to student organization leaders to share their college experience and motivate future Miners and spread awareness of your group. Collegiate Mentors promote and encourage graduating seniors to participate in these events at their designated high schools.
GEAR UP
GEAR UP is a 6 year program that expands educational opportunities and to assist student in becoming college eligible and then academically successful in higher education. Their mission is to provide awareness, academic readiness and support to disadvantaged students for successful completion and pursuit of post-secondary education. Collegiate Mentors are instrumental in assisting the Gear Up cohort throughout the college application process.
Education Talent Search (ETS)
The Educational Talent Search Program (ETS) assists qualified youth, who have the desire and potential, to graduate from high school and undertake a program of post-secondary education. ETS provides guidance, access and information on the processes of college admissions, financial aid and scholarships available for post-secondary study. ETS exposes students to the college environment with college visits, cultural enrichment activities and opportunities for character and leadership development. The ETS Program motivates students in the El Paso Community to complete their education.
