The UTEP Rugby Club was originally founded in 1973, its mission was to spread its cultural differences and breed a program driven for success to the university campus. Under the leadership of the team's head coach, Mike Wozniki, Rugby has gained much support and recognition in just about every aspect of the organization. Rugby is a game played by two teams using an oval ball. Players try to score points by carrying and placing the ball in their opponents' end of the field, or by kicking it over a bar fixed between two posts.

Recruitment has typically been donde in accordance with SGA at various New Student Orientation Events.
Practices are year round with some months off for seasonal breaks. Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00pm-9:00pm
