HERTZ FELLOWSHIP



 

The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation’s most promising graduate students in science and technology.

The fellowship includes up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, and the freedom to pursue innovative projects wherever they may lead. In addition, fellows take part in ongoing mentoring, symposia, and workshops with our vibrant community of more than 1200 fellows, a set of peers who span disciplines, generations, and geography.

See program website for details. A campus nomination is not required, but prospective applicants are encouraged to consult with the OSFA well in advance of the deadline if seeking assistance.

  • Be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap year preparing to apply to graduate school;

  • Intend to pursue a PhD in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering, such as biological science, physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, astronomy, geological science, computer science and engineering

  • Intend to direct their studies toward understanding and solving major, near-term problems facing society; and

  • Be citizens or permanent residents of the United States (if not a US citizen or permanent resident at time of application, proof of Application for Citizenship or Permanent Resident card will be requested if granted an interview).
  • Deep, integrated knowledge, exceptional creativity, broad understanding of physical principles, and outstanding potential for innovative research is expected.

  • Commitment to the greater good and potential to be a leader in the field who will address the most pressing challenges facing society.

  • Creative problem solvers, active leadership, and lifelong achievers.

  • Individuals that would like to become part of a community of like-minded fellows, which now totals over 1200 alumni.
