Professional Development
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT | CURRENT INITIATIVE

Professional development refers to many types of educational experiences related to an individual’s work. People participate in professional development to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that will improve their performance on the job. Many fields require members to participate in ongoing learning approved by the profession, sometimes as a requirement for keeping their jobs.

Professionals often also voluntarily seek new learning when inquiry, exploration, and researched “best practices” are valued and encouraged.

Technology Support at UTEP currently provides several types of external professional development opportunities on campus (software workshops, Bb Institute, TeachTech), but perhaps should also model what a department can do internally to ensure the personal and professional growth of its administration, staff, and student-staff.

This initiative would encourage participation from all members of Technology Support to participate in professional development on campus, and formalize incentives to acknowledge and recognize exemplary completion. Utilizing the functionality of Campus Edge to identify and track professional development opportunities on campus, we could employment experiences at Technology Support with continued growth.
