NBC Learn


NBC Learn Higher Ed ( ) is a collection of more than 22,000 videos, documents, and images that can be incorporated into classroom lectures and online teaching materials. The stories on NBC Learn Higher Ed are 2-6 minutes in length and designed so that faculty can provide students access to digital content that is engaging, inspiring, and relevant to their daily lives.

In addition to its rich collection of primary-source newscasts from the NBC archive, NBC Learn Higher Ed is updated daily with the latest and current events videos from NBC News and its portfolio. The resources enable faculty to use real-world case studies and keep students up-to-date on the latest developments in their fields.

NBC Learn also creates original video series, including the Emmy Award-winning “Science of the Olympics” and “Science of NFL Football,” to support STEM subjects with compelling sports content.

Accessing NBC Learn

There are three ways to access NBC Learn at UTEP:

1. Embedding a video into your course

Step 1. In any text editor, click Mashups and select ‘ Add NBC Content.’ This will open the NBC Learn homepage in a new window.
Step 2. Select a video to embed.
Step 3. Click ‘Embed.’ This will return you to Blackboard.
Step 4. Add any questions or instructions for students, and then click Submit.

2. Through the Blackboard Portal

1. From the Blackboard homepage, click the ‘Browse NBC Learn’ link on the Tools menu.

3. Through the website *Available while on the UTEP network


Curriculum Allignment Service

For faculty at UTEP, NBC Learn offers complimentary curriculum alignments so you can determine the resources that best fit your course. Simply email a syllabus to , and the NBC Learn Curriculum Team will return the document with links and summaries of related videos embedded.

Q: What kinds of videos are available on NBC Learn?
A: NBC Learn’s library features over 22,000 videos and is updated every weekday with the latest and current events coverage from NBC News. Additionally, NBC Learn hosts archival news footage dating back to the beginning of broadcast news in 1949 and original educational series, including the Emmy Award-winning “Science of NFL Football” and “Chronicles of Courage” that show the real-world applications of classroom learning. The majority of videos on the site are less than six minutes in length—ideal for hooking students’ attention at the beginning of a lesson or underscoring a key takeaway from class.

Q: How can I download NBC Learn videos?
A: To download NBC Learn videos, first download the offline player by clicking ‘Offline App’ from any page of the site and following the directions for setup. Then with the Offline App open, open any video and click the ‘Download’ button to save the video to your hard drive. The Offline App is currently only compatible with Mac, Windows, and Chrome operating systems. The NBC Learn team is working to make the app available for Android and iOS platforms in the future.

A: The NBC Learn Curriculum Team is available to conduct virtual training sessions for subscribers who want to learn more about using NBC Learn content in their courses. Q: Can I download NBC Learn videos to my device?
A: Yes. You can use NBC Learn’s Offline App to download videos to any device running Mac, Windows, or Chrome operating systems. Visit the Offline App page to download and set up your player. Then, download unlimited videos or playlists for offline playback. All downloaded videos come with a transcript and full metadata.
