"WX Geeks is must-see TV for the meteorology community, and I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as the Geek of the Week," said Gill, who teaches classes on weather and climate in UTEP's Environmental Science program.

WX Geeks (pronounced Weather Geeks) airs each Sunday at 10 a.m. MST on The Weather Channel and covers a range of topics relating to weather and climate. The 'Geek of the Week' segment is a short tribute to various members of the weather community recognizing their contributions to the field and revealing some of their favorite types of weather, hobbies and most memorable weather moments. Dr. Gill was nominated by this Sunday’s guest, Dr. Tanya Harrison of Arizona State University. Harrison, a planetary scientist who visited UTEP last semester to give a seminar and speak to students and faculty, discussed weather phenomena on Mars on Sunday's WX Geeks show.

Gill has studied dust storms, a phenomenon very frequently seen in the El Paso region, for more than 30 years. His recent research has delved into whether the extreme weather events associated with climate change and drought will include worsening dust storms.
