Sergeants Major Academy Recognizes UTEP Employees

The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) has recognized UTEP graduate program managers Karla Iscapa, Carmen Medellin and Steve Telless for their outstanding service to the academy’s soldiers, civilian personnel and family members.

Iscapa, Medellin and Telless provide enrollment, tuition assistance and support services to USASMA students enrolled in UTEP’s Master of Leadership Studies (MLS), Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Defense and Strategic Studies (DSS) programs. 

 The USASMA presented each of them a certificate of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to helping the academy’s students in their pursuit of higher education.

Iscapa has been the MPA program coordinator and manager since 2013. She has worked at UTEP for 12 years. The UTEP alumna earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational and corporate communication in 2008 and a master’s degree in educational administration in 2014. 

As the program coordinator and manager for UTEP’s National Security Studies Institute (NSSI), Medellin recruits and assists soldiers in the DSS program. She started working at UTEP in 2004 and joined the NSSI in 2015. Medellin graduated from UTEP with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2011 and a Master of Education in guidance and counseling in 2015.

Telless serves as the MLS program manager. He has been with the program since 2005. Telless holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science from UTEP.
