    4.- Program in Kinesiology and Sports Studies

    Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sports Studies The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sports Studies requires (1) a General Education Core of 60 hours, (2) Kinesiology courses of 42-45 hours, (3) an 18 hour minor, and (4) 9 hours of upper-division electives. Students wishing to obtain a teaching certificate must take the Sports Studies tract and the education minor. Students who wish to pursue a career in adult fitness or who wish to pursue graduate study in exercise science, physical therapy, or similar fields should select the Health Fitness tract. Students wishing to work in sports related administrative offices should take Sports Administration tract.

    Students who already have a bachelor's degree in some other field and who wish to pursue a teaching certificate to teach physical education should refer to the College of Education section of the catalog. Students desiring to pursue a Master of Science in Kinesiology should consult the Graduate Catalog.

    Those students pursuing a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree who wish to specialize in Kinesiology and Sports Studies are referred to the College of Education section of this catalog for specific requirements.

    3. Minor (18 hours)
        Students may select a minor in Education, which would allow them to pursue teacher certification, or an approved minor in Liberal Arts, Science, Nursing and Health Sciences, or Business. They may also choose a minor in Athletic Training.

        Theconsists Education Minor of the following courses:

        The Education Minor also requires an additional 6 hours of English at the 3200 level or above. These hours may be chosen from the Cultural Diversity and Humanities menus under the General Requirements.

        The Business Minor consists of the following courses:
        CIS 3200 and 15 hours from the following:
        BLAW 3301, MKT 3300, MGMT 3303, FIN 3310,
        CIS 3345, ECON 3320, and (ACCT 3201 or ACCT 3309)
        ECON 3204 (which fulfills the Economics General Requirement) The Athletic Training Minor consists of the following courses:
        HSCI 3202, KIN 3216, KIN 3316, KIN 3409, KIN 3415, KIN 3416

        Certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required. Students should consult with athletic training personnel regarding entry into the program and practicum hours required for state and national certification.

    4. Electives (9 hours)

      Students must complete 9 hours of electives as a part of the degree program. Students working towards teacher certification must complete either RED 3340 or RED 3342. Course work should be selected so that it can be used to prepare the student to challenge the ExCET in a second teaching field. Electives must be at the upper-division level.
