Patricia Smith, poet and winner of the 2018 NAACP Image Award, will have a poetry reading and conversation at Friday at UTEP’s Union Cinema.
Smith is also the 2018 Kate and Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award winner and a 2018 Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist.
The Department of Creative Writing (and the Spatz Visiting Writer Endowment), the African-American Studies Program, and the Liberal Arts Honors Program are the event’s sponsors.
Smith’s books, including the much triumphed “Incendiary Art,” will be available for sale after the reading. This event is free and open to the public.
Smith is working on a biography of Harriet Tubman, a poetry volume combining text and 19th century African-American photos, and a collaborative crime novel. She is also a full professor of creative writing at CUNY-College of Staten Island.
