The University of Texas at El Paso has recorded the highest-ever spring enrollment. The student population for the spring 2018 semester has reached 23,606, a 3.6 percent overall increase compared to the Spring 2017 semester.

The increase is the highest percent increase in a spring semester since 2011.

“We are excited to see continuing enrollment growth at UTEP,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Gary Edens. “Especially encouraging is the 7.2 percent increase among sophomores, which we credit to some of our newest retention efforts, in particular the UTEP Edge.”

The UTEP Edge, a cross-campus culture of student success and empowerment, develops students’ existing assets through high-impact experiences including undergraduate research, civic engagement, study abroad and student employment.

“We are especially thankful to the faculty and staff who work so hard to mentor and support our students and their dream of a university degree,” Edens said.

Although the spring semester is just getting underway, UTEP students should start planning for what comes next. Class schedules for summer and fall 2018 will be open to campus starting Monday, March 5. Returning students are encouraged to begin making appointments with their advisers to plan their summer and fall schedules.

“It’s important that students visit their advisers and plan their schedules before registration opens to ensure they secure a seat in the courses they need at the most convenient days and times, based on their own schedules,” said Nohemi Gallarzo, UTEP registrar. “The earlier they plan and prepare for the semester, the more likely they are to secure a course schedule that fits their work and personal needs and helps them progress toward graduation.”

2018 summer and fall registration begins Monday, April 2 by classification. Important registration dates are as follows:

  • April 2 – Graduate students and seniors
  • April 9 – Juniors and above
  • April 16 – Sophomores and above
  • April 23 – Freshmen and all others
