UTEP President

The beginning of a new academic year is always exciting, a time to renew commitments and aspirations, and set new goals. We are very pleased to announce that one of last year’s goals—to create a comprehensive, integrated, online UTEP Events Calendar—has been accomplished, and that valuable resource is now available to all of us as we launch another highly promising new academic year on the UTEP campus.

The UTEP Events Calendar offers a comprehensive list of events organized, hosted, sponsored or co-sponsored by the University and its departments, schools, colleges, centers, institutes, alumni organizations and officially sanctioned student organizations. It is accessible on desktop and mobile devices at events.utep.edu. Photo: UTEP Communications

The calendar, which can be accessed at events.utep.edu, offers a single source of information about all University events—from visiting lecturers, art exhibits, concerts, and UTEP student showcases, to high-profile performers at the Haskins Center and Sun Bowl. It was developed and will be managed by University Communications (UC) to achieve two major objectives: provide the campus and the community at large with up-to-date and comprehensive information about UTEP events and activities; and, to the extent possible, help us all avoid the inadvertent scheduling of events and activities that will conflict with those already on the calendar.

A soft launch of this live calendar was conducted earlier this summer, and more than 100 events are already posted. This number is expected to grow rapidly as the fall semester gets underway, and as more departments and organizations add to it. As a calendar user, you will have several options to search for events: college or school, date, venue, and keyword or type of event such as arts and culture, career development or athletics. If you elect to do so, and by a single click, an event of special interest to you can be added to your personal calendar, which will also prompt an email reminder as the event date approaches.

Posting an event to the calendar is easy, too: simply click on “Submit an Event” and log in with your UTEP username and password. Your submission will be sent to UC and posted that day. To post items directly to the calendar, training is available by contacting University Communications at utepevents@utep.edu. To learn more about posting to the University Events Calendar, please visit this link: www.utep.edu/university-communications/resources/events-calendar-guidelines.html.

The new calendar is also linked to UTEP’s interactive Campus Map. If you haven’t yet visited the new campus map and explored its features, I encourage you to view it at utep.edu/map. This detailed 3-D rendering of the campus includes building names, floor plans of the larger buildings, accessible paths, Miner Metro Shuttle stops, parking options, green spaces, campus housing, the locations, menus and hours of campus eateries, as well as 70 different 360-degree panoramic views.

As we begin this fall 2018 semester with high expectations for continued growth in enrollment, academic programs, research, events and activities, campus facilities and stature, we hope that these new interactive tools will help increase our collective awareness of all that UTEP has to offer.
