MedFuture is a pre-med pathway joint program between The University of Texas at El Paso and the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.

Know Your Future!

MedFuture is a pre-med pathway program that provides UTEP students with guaranteed admission to medical school at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine if all program criteria are met. 

The MedFuture program seeks exceptional, highly qualified high school students in the greater El Paso region with an interest in going to medical school and a strong dedication to serving the Southwest region.

At UTEP, MedFuture Scholars receive strong pre-med mentorship and advising, ensuring they get a solid foundation for their college career. MedFuture program opportunities include the following:

  • Specialized pre-health advising and mentorship
    • Monthly meetings with a UTEP pre-med mentor
    • Priority registration each semester
    • PLFSOM campus visits each semester 
    • Professional development activities and workshops at both UTEP and PLFSOM
  • First-year summer paid research internship at UTEP
  • Second-year summer healthcare immersion internship
  • Professional Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) preparation programs
  • Guaranteed admission to the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine if all program criteria are met

The application portal for MedFuture opens annually on August 1 and closes at 5 p.m. (MST) on December 1.

To be eligible to apply for the MedFuture program you should:

  • Be a senior in high school
  • Apply to UTEP (www.applytexas.org), fulfilling all UTEP enrollment requirements and providing all college placement information
  • Have an SAT or ACT score above the average for the State of Texas
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident

Personal Statement - What aspirations, experiences, or relationships have motivated you to pursue the study of medicine and apply to the MedFuture Program?

Optional Essay - Any unique circumstances or life experiences that are relevant to your application.

Activities - Description of leadership, community engagement, extracurricular, and healthcare-related activities.
