July Week 5 MHIR Research Reports
Taking Charge of Research
This week my role at the lab changed a little bit. I was assigned to be the one in charge of the lab because my team traveled to Darien to do field work for the whole week.
Day by Day Research is Coming Along
As week 5 initiated, I was enthusiastic about continuing to interview patients from the clinic. Monday came and we headed to Colon early in the morning as usual. I collected 12 interviews from the patients and gave them the nutritional presentation. They were so intrigued by every slide and they thanked me for teaching them.
Collecting Answers One Sample at a Time
My research seems to be progressing very well. As always, every Tuesday we go to Canton Vasquez de Coronado to collect our water samples from the river.
Interesting Discoveries Are Always Being Made
This past week was full of new experiences in the field and in the laboratory. Getting experience in the lab has been difficult for me because I used to think that research was boring and tedious.
My Contribution to the Changing World
Week five here in Costa Rica and I can say that so far it has been one of the best moments in my life; knowing that I can contribute for a change in the health outcomes of many Costa Ricans.
A Thankful and Changing Research Development
When I first heard about Tonosi the only definition that could come to my mind was a small town in Los Santos, Panama. However, after my visit that perception changed completely.
The Lessons I Learn Beyond Research
This was the week I fell in love with research. I can pinpoint the moment and the story involves three jars of jam. Qualitative research is where my mind, heart and focus has been these past weeks. Qualitative research involves a lot of things like surveys or questionnaires that are then used as tools to yield data.
Working Together to Achieve Success
Working against time requires a lot of concentration and efficient time management. This week became the third consecutive week of water sample collection for my investigation on multi-resistant bacteria.
Designing, Learning, and Adapting in Research
It is the end of our fifth week in Costa Rica; thus, three more weeks to go. Time is going by too fast, especially for the deadline of the completion of our projects. My project is focused on determining some risk factors that cause fall occurrences in older adults. Hopefully, I will also have time to design some strategies to prevent falls in older adults.
