Welcome from the Director
WELCOME TO THE NEUROMUSCULAR RESEARCH LAB!
The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL), located in a 1,000 ft² state-of-the-art facility in the College’s Campbell Building, is dedicated to advancing our understanding of musculoskeletal health. Our mission is to uncover the mechanisms of injury, develop innovative treatment strategies, and prevent long-term sequelae of musculoskeletal conditions, with a special emphasis on chronic ankle instability.
Our lab spans the full spectrum of biomechanics research, ranging from traditional biomechanical analysis to musculoskeletal modeling and simulation, and now extending into artificial intelligence–driven methods. Equipped with advanced technology, including an AMTI force-measuring treadmill, 15 high-resolution OptiTrack motion capture cameras, and Delsys electromyography systems. NMRL enables precise, high-fidelity analysis of human movement.
What sets NMRL apart is our integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence to transform biomechanics into clinically meaningful insights. We actively collaborate with the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering at UTEP, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise to develop AI-based biomechanical solutions that are scalable, accessible, and impactful.
At NMRL, we are shaping the future of injury prevention and rehabilitation by bridging human performance science, advanced engineering, and AI innovation, all with the ultimate goal of improving lives.
