Welcome
Welcome to the Institute for Scholarship, Pedagogy, Innovation and Research Excellence (InSPIRE) at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). We are committed to supporting the personal and professional growth of all members of our campus community.
InSPIRE brings individuals and groups together on campus to promote collaboration and create synergy towards achieving UTEP’s institutional goals. Recognizing that the ultimate goal of everything we do is student success, we have an obligation to continuously improve as educators and scholars for the benefit of our students. We aim to create a culture in which high value is placed on professional development and lifelong learning, and to provide increased learning opportunities to support that culture.
InSPIRE serves as the hub that capitalizes on and fosters the rich assets and talents of faculty from all ranks. While connecting shared academic interests across disciplines, the center supports communities of practice and provides professional development opportunities in a variety of areas including teaching and learning, research and creative activities, and leadership.
We invite you to explore our website and discover the resources that we have to advance your professional goals.
Innovate Your Teaching
InSPIRE works alongside instructors to understand their pedagogical approach to customize technology-based teaching and learning solutions, assess student-learning outcomes, and facilitate reflection-based workshops on mentor and mentee best practices for teaching and learning success.
Tenure and Promotion (T&P)
InSPIRE offers a T&P series to provide a platform for tenure-track faculty to meet with campus leaders for mentorship and guidance in successfully achieving tenure and promotion. The series of short but meaningful presentations include Tenure and Promotion: The University Level; Tenure and Promotion: Teaching and Learning; Tenure and Promotion: Research and Scholarly Activities; and Tenure and Promotion: Service. You can find additional resources in the Office of the Provost website. Each session is followed by Q&A and open discussion.
Engage Students
From developing proactive communication, to enhancing service-learning curriculum, to innovating pedagogy –InSPIRE helps faculty with student retention, professional development, and sense of belonging.
Enhance Your Research and Creative Activities
InSPIRE partners with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects to provide instructors of all ranks with the support to elevate their scholarship, identify funding, and connect with other talented faculty from disciplines across campus.
Build Your Community
We foster a culture of academic collaboration to promote career advancement and support research, curricular, and teaching practices for instructors of all ranks by gathering groups of like-minded individuals and providing high-performing faculty spaces.
