Gender-Specific Approaches in MentoringDr. Danielle Deng, Assistant Professor, Sociology and Anthropology 12:00PM-1:30PM Union East - Andesite 102B Though research on the impact of gender on mentoring relationships remains limited, there is evidence that gender difference can influence the ways in which mentees respond to mentoring relationships. The goal of this workshop is to help mentors understand the potential impact of gender on mentoring relationships. The workshop also reviews tips and strategies for gender-specific mentoring approaches that are intended to help mentors communicate and develop effective relationships with their mentees. |

Engaging, Ensuring and Elevating: Essential Strategies for Mentoring Early College High School (ECHS) students at UTEPDr. Danielle Deng, Assistant Professor, Sociology and Anthropology 12:00PM-1:30PM Union East - Andesite 102B The goal of this workshop is to offer UTEP mentors a series of tips and considerations for mentoring Early College High School (ECHS) students. Topics include compassionate listening, speaking with purpose, providing a safe environment and relationship, and goal setting, among others. Although the advice offered by this workshop is directed toward supporting UTEP mentors working with ECHS students, it also has potential applicability to supporting other UTEP students in general. |
