Liberal Arts finds a new home
This Week in Liberal Arts History … 1931: The College of Mines and Metallurgy receives approval from the UT Board of Regents to confer Bachelor of Arts degrees, “provided they fulfill requirements substantially similar to those of the University of Texas.” This event transformed UTEP, then a remote mining school, into a regional four-year liberal arts college. 1967: Fifty years ago, on September 1, 1967, the School of Arts and Sciences, the home of liberal arts at UTEP for forty years, is broken into four new divisions. One of the new divisions, the College of Liberal Arts, would become the largest college at the University of Texas at El Paso. Source: Minutes, UT Board of Regents
