Engineers no longer required to be persuasive!
This Week in Liberal Arts History … 1965 … UTEP reduces the writing requirement for engineers, requiring them to take only two courses, like all other students, rather than the customary three. The additional course had been added in the 1920s by Dean John Kidd, as he believed that engineers had a duty to be persuasive when presenting ideas that bettered society.
During the 2017-2018 academic year, UTEP celebrates the 50th anniversary of the College of Liberal Arts. Tune in each week to learn something new about the history of liberal arts and more during our yearlong celebration. See you next week!
