This act would transform UTEP from a mining school to a regional liberal arts college. … 1942 … Radio station KTSM, the forerunner to today’s KTEP, begins broadcasting from the Centennial Museum. … 1966 … Texas Western College president Joseph Ray recommends breaking up the School of Arts and Sciences into four new schools. One of the proposed schools will become the College of Liberal Arts.
