TOPIC: Intellectuals on the Fringe 1900 to the Present
Instructor: Diana Martinez
This course will cover American culture in various disciplines from 1900 to the present. "On the fringe" refers to intellectual who challenged the standard cultural values of their time. These intellectuals created innovative ideas from the edges of society. We look at various models of modernism such but not limited to the following: realism, socialism, surrealism, and abstractionism. We will also be covering post-modernism. One important question to consider is, "Can we ever escape modernism?" The course is designed to help improve critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills of the students.
