On Dec. 9, Chancellor James B. Milliken of The University of Texas System joined U.S. Sen. John Cornyn to announce that eight UT institutions, including UTEP, have entered a partnership with Grow with Google, which offers the specialized credentialing courses. The partnership with the UT System is Google’s largest university collaboration to date.

“By offering these industry-recognized credentials, the Grow with Google partnership enables UTEP students to enhance their knowledge,” said Beth Brunk-Chavez, Ph.D., dean of UTEP’s Extended University. “They also have the opportunity to grow their skill sets and become more prepared for their future.”

Courses will be integrated into existing undergraduate degree programs and also will be offered as standalone experiences at no additional cost to students. A catalogue of additional courses through online platform Coursera is also available to students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program offered through the Woody L. Hunt College of Business.

“The opportunity to integrate these industry-recognized certificates into UTEP courses and programs has ignited the imaginations of UTEP faculty,” said Toni Blum, Ph.D., UTEP vice provost for curriculum effectiveness and improvement. “Importantly, we’re seeing this happen across disciplines, ranging from computer science to art, to business, to psychology.”

The program launched partially in the Fall 2022 semester. Administrators expect to serve between 250 and 300 students when the program fully launches in Spring 2023.
