Important Changes to Credit Card Processing for Students

While credit card payments offer a convenient way for students and parents to pay tuition and fees, the cost to The University of Texas at El Paso for providing this convenience has grown to an unsustainable level. As a result, the University will require those who want the convenience of paying with a credit card to help defray the cost of providing this service.

Effective May 1, 2023, the convenience fee for using a credit card will increase to 2.95% on payments for tuition, fees and other charges including housing, parking, traffic fees and fines, library fines, student health insurance and repatriation insurance. The convenience fee covers charges assessed by credit card companies to provide the service. The University will not profit from this fee.

To avoid the convenience fee, students may pay online with an electronic check. Payments by cash or personal paper check are accepted at the Student Business Services cashier windows. To learn more, visit the Student Business Services website at sbs.utep.edu.
