
UTEP Names C. Scott Kruse Dean of the College of Health Sciences
EL PASO, Texas (April 22, 2025) – The University of Texas at El Paso has named C. Scott Kruse, Ph.D., as the new dean of the College of Health Sciences. Kruse comes to UTEP with a distinguished career in both academia and military service, having most recently served as Associate Dean of the College of Health Professions and Professor of Health Administration at Texas State University.

“UTEP is committed to healthcare in the Paso del Norte region and we look forward to welcoming Dr. Kruse to the UTEP Health team,” said UTEP President Heather Wilson.
Kruse has held several leadership roles at Texas State, including director of the School of Health Administration and director of Graduate Programs, demonstrating a commitment to student success through curriculum and faculty development, mentorship and strategic research agendas.
Kruse holds a Ph.D. in health-related sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University; master’s degrees in healthcare administration, business and information technology from Baylor University and The University of Texas at San Antonio; and a bachelor’s degree in engineering psychology from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. His academic research and teaching have emphasized the application of technology in healthcare.
Before transitioning to academia, Kruse served in the U.S. Army in a range of leadership roles, achieving the rank of major and taking on intelligence, technology and healthcare management responsibilities.
“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Interim Dean Stacy Wagovich for her commitment to the students, faculty and staff of the College over the last year,” said John Wiebe, Ph.D., UTEP provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her hard work has positioned the College well for new leadership.”
Kruse will begin his new role at UTEP on July 1, 2025.
