Karol G Parking Impacts: What to Expect

We know many of you are looking forward to the arrival of Karol G for concerts in Sun Bowl Stadium on Sept. 5 and 6. These major concerts are expected to attract more than 67,000 fans during Labor Day Weekend, providing a fantastic concert experience and a significant economic benefit to our community.

Karol G Parking Impacts: What to Expect

To prepare for the shows, nearly 100 vehicles, tour buses, tractor trailers, production trucks, vendors and other resources will begin arriving on campus on Wednesday, Aug. 26 and will create some limitations on parking through Tuesday, Sept. 8. These disruptions will become more significant as we get closer to the concert dates.

We recognize that this temporary situation may create frustration for some parking permit holders. Parking and Transportation Services will send direct emails to permit holders whose assigned lots (DA-1, GR-1 and GR-2) will be fully closed in support of the event. In addition, others may experience more limited parking as permit holders for the closed lots will be permitted to temporarily park in other lots.

Below is a full list of the lots that will be closed:

  • The Dawson 1 (DA-1) lot will be closed beginning Wednesday, Aug. 26 and remain closed through Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • The top floor of the Sun Bowl Garage will be closed beginning Friday, Aug. 28, which may result in more congestion on the lower floors. It will remain closed through Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • The Rudolph lot operated by Parking Systems of America (PSA) across from the UTEP Police Department will be closed beginning Sunday, Aug. 30 and remain closed through Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Part of the Glory Road 2 (GR-2) lot will be closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1. The rest of GR-2 will close on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and remain closed through Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day holiday).
  • The Glory Road 1 (GR-1) lot will be closed beginning Thursday, Sept. 3 and remain closed through Monday, Sept. 7.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 6, the majority of UTEP parking lots will be available for paid parking only, and students and employees not attending the concert are encouraged to avoid campus. Inner Campus (IC) orange and red permits will be honored for access to the inner campus. For questions about a specific parking need during the concert weekend, please email parking@utep.edu.

To help prepare for the next two weeks, please review the following information and tips: 

  • To avoid parking hassles as the concert dates approach, consider alternative methods to get to campus, such as carpooling with a friend or colleague, using the pickup and dropoff areas on the UTEP map (click on “Campus Map PDF” and look for the icons of a person in a green circle), taking public transportation, or parking in the Glory Road Parking Garage operated by Sun Metro. 
  • Permit holders whose assigned lots are closed may cross-park only in the alternative locations specifically identified in their direct email communications.
  • Cross-parking is subject to lot capacity and does not always guarantee space availability.
  • Parking permits must be properly displayed to avoid citation.
  • Double parking, triple parking and parking in driving lanes or fire lanes is prohibited and creates a serious safety risk. These actions obstruct emergency access, traffic flow, and pedestrian movement and cannot be accommodated under any circumstances.
  • Failure to follow posted signage, cross-parking guidelines, or staff instructions may result in citation or relocation of vehicles.

We appreciate our campus community’s flexibility and understanding, as a large-scale event of this magnitude requires balancing daily academic and operational needs, public safety, emergency access, and complex logistics involving sizable vehicles and time-sensitive event schedules.
