UTEP is On the Move - Be Ready for Campus Improvement Impacts
Campus improvement projects are underway across campus, and the new UTEP On the Move website at www.utep.edu/onthemove is the best place to learn about what’s happening and how it may affect you.
The site includes information on major construction and maintenance projects that are improving services and spaces for Miner students, faculty and staff – including Miner Crossing, the new freshmen residence hall, the upcoming Union Building renovation and the arroyo restoration – and their impacts on pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Signs around campus featuring a construction-themed Paydirt Pete will also help direct traffic and provide detour information to pedestrians.
As the fall semester begins, students, faculty and staff should be aware of these five ongoing construction impacts:
1. Walkway Closure Between UGLC and Centennial Museum
What’s happening: The pedestrian walkway between the Undergraduate Learning Center (UGLC) and the Centennial Museum is temporarily closed due to ongoing work to replace water and sewer lines to the Centennial Museum. The walkway is expected to reopen by Monday, Sept. 14. Although the Centennial Museum is currently closed due to HVAC work inside the building, the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens remain open.
Detour information: Pedestrians coming from University Avenue can access the UGLC through the west door, near the Interdisciplinary Research Building. Pedestrians traveling from University Avenue to Wiggins Way, or vice versa, can walk through the UGLC or around the front of the Centennial Museum.
2. Glory Road and Randolph Drive Closure
What’s happening: Parts of Glory Road and Randolph Drive, including the intersection, are temporarily closed while construction crews dig water lines for the new Miner Crossing residence hall under construction near Kidd Field.
Detour information: Vehicles can access the Glory Road 3 (GR-3) parking lot from the east end of Glory Road, and the Glory Road 1 (GR-1) and Glory Road 2 (GR-2) parking lots from the west end of Glory Road. Vehicles can access the Randolph 2 (RA-2) parking lot from Robinson Avenue.
Pedestrians can still get through the area on the sidewalk on the north side of Glory Road. The Miner Metro Shuttle route through the area has been updated due to the closure. Learn more here.
3. Education Building
What’s happening: Improvements to the Education Building include first floor restroom renovations, plumbing upgrades, exterior ADA ramp modifications and data center enhancements.
Detour information: The building’s west ADA entrance is under construction, so the east entrance serves as the primary accessible entry point. A portion of the parking lot near Graham Hall, Randolph 1 (RA-1), and at Miner Village (MV) are blocked during construction. However, the sidewalk between Miner Village and the Education Building is open for pedestrians.
4. Woody L. Hunt College of Business Building
What’s happening: This renovation project modernizes the third floor of the Woody L. Hunt College of Business Building, including classroom upgrades, study and collaboration space improvements, bathroom renovations, and a new suite for the Hunt Business graduate programs.
Detour information: Access throughout the building will remain available during construction.
5. Liberal Arts Building Demolition and Arroyo Restoration
What’s happening: This project includes demolition of existing Liberal Arts facilities to prepare the site for the future arroyo restoration project.
Detour information: Fencing is up around the site, but pedestrian walkways are open. The University 3 (UN-3) and Hawthorne 2 (HA-2) parking lots near the site are currently closed.
