In its June 16, 2019 issue, The Dallas Morning News pays tribute to how outgoing UTEP President Diana Natalicio has “shown how education can transform a community.”

The column, written by UTEP alumnus and Gold Nugget recipient Alfredo Corchado, talks about President Natalicio's successful efforts to ensure that the student population mirrored the predominantly Hispanic community, and make UTEP more inclusive without lowering its educational standards.
