UTEP Announces Private Nursing Pod for Breastfeeding Moms on Campus

UTEP President Heather Wilson debuted The University of Texas at El Paso's first lactation pod during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, in UTEP's Union Building East. The lactation pod is the latest addition to a series of lactation rooms located across campus that can be utilized by University students, employees and campus guests.
“We believe in providing a place on campus for nursing mothers to express milk or nurse their child in a private, comfortable and quiet space,” said Sandy Vasquez, associate vice president for Human Resources at UTEP. “The lactation pod is especially beneficial to the University because of its visibility and accessibility for users of the pod.”
The lactation pod is located in the Bhutan Lounge of the second floor of Union Building East. Once a nursing mother requests access at utep.edu/lactation, the private nursing space can be utilized to express milk.
UTEP understands and celebrates the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits for mothers and children. UTEP’s lactation rooms positively impact the well-being of the community by creating a mother-friendly environment for UTEP students, employees and campus guests.
