EL PASO, Texas – The University of Texas at El Paso has appointed Lucas Roebuck as Vice President for Marketing and Communications after a national search.
Bringing extensive experience in higher education marketing and journalism, Roebuck most recently served as Vice President for Marketing and Chief Communications Officer at The University of Texas at Tyler.
“Lucas brings strong experience leading both enrollment and brand marketing and communication at two other universities,” UTEP President Heather Wilson said. “UTEP is America’s leading Hispanic-serving university and we are confident his experience will help take UTEP to the next level.”
The son of a Mexican immigrant, Roebuck spent several years as a child in the bi-national communities of Mexicali-Calexico and Tijuana-San Diego. He is a first-generation college graduate.
Roebuck studied journalism at John Brown University in Arkansas and later earned an M.A. in the same field from the University of Arkansas. Before joining The University of Texas at Tyler in 2017, his career included jobs as a newspaper editor, TV news assignment editor, communications professor, and as a communications director in both higher education and healthcare settings. At UT Tyler he was responsible for both marketing and enrollment services.
“Lucas’ experience building successful college narratives will help us tell UTEP’s compelling and important story,” said Jake Logan, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and chair of the search committee. “I couldn’t be more pleased with this successful conclusion to our national search.”
Roebuck will be responsible for developing and executing the University’s marketing strategies and overseeing UTEP’s Office of University Communications.
“As UTEP emerges as the nation’s leading Hispanic-serving research university, the opportunities to share about the impactful scholarship transpiring in the heart of El Paso-Juárez are amazing,” Roebuck said. “I am honored to join the Miner family as we work to impact the region, Texas and beyond with skilled graduates and meaningful research.”
Roebuck is married to Cherissa (Dees) Roebuck, and they have four children.
