UTEP School of Nursing Faculty Member Selected for NIH Scholars Program on Aging

Franchesca E. Nuñez, Ph.D., assistant professor in The University of Texas at El Paso’s School of Nursing, has been accepted into the 2020 Butler-Williams Scholars Program from the National Institute on Aging, a division of the National Institutes of Health.
This highly competitive program provides unique opportunities for junior faculty and researchers who are new to the field of aging to gain insight about research on aging from a number of perspectives. The program will be held online this year from July 7-9 and scholars will participate in lectures, seminars and small group discussions in research design relative to aging, including issues relevant to aging of ethnic and racial minorities.
“We are excited for Dr. Nuñez to participate in such a highly competitive program for new and emerging researchers,” said UTEP School of Nursing Dean Leslie K. Robbins, Ph.D. “We have high expectations and look forward to her contributions as a nurse researcher.”
Dr. Nuñez joined UTEP in 2013 as a clinical instructor. Her research interests include measuring blood biomarkers and cognitive reserve in individuals who are Hispanic and diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
