UTEP Celebrates 2019 Winter Commencement

Nearly 19,000 family members and friends filled the UTEP Don Haskins Center to celebrate the achievements of more than 2,500 new graduates during The University of Texas at El Paso’s four Commencement ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15.
During the final Commencement ceremony Sunday afternoon, nearly 750 summer graduates and winter candidates from the colleges of Engineering and Science earned their degrees.
Saturday evening, more than 500 summer graduates and winter candidates from the College of Health Sciences and the School of Nursing were eligible to cross the stage.
More than 550 graduates and candidates from the colleges of Business Administration and Education celebrated their accomplishments during the afternoon Commencement ceremony on Saturday.
During the Saturday morning ceremony, family and friends honored more than 700 graduates and candidates from the College of Liberal Arts.
Interim Provost John Wiebe, who presided over the four ceremonies, expressed his congratulations to the members of the Class of 2019.
“This is a great moment for you and for all of us who have been a part of your higher education journey,” he told the graduates at each ceremony. “You set high aspirations for yourselves, persevered, and worked hard to develop your talents and achieve your goals.
"The regions of the world that educate their people will thrive in the 21st century, and through your achievements here, you are not only expanding your personal and professional life options, you are also opening doors of opportunity for thousands of aspiring students throughout the nation as other universities look to UTEP as the exemplar for delivering the highest quality education in an affordable and student-centered manner.”
