EL PASO, Texas (Nov. 25, 2021) – The University of Texas at El Paso’s Cheer and Dance teams took part in the 95th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Nov. 25 in New York City.
“We are honored to have had the opportunity to represent UTEP and all of our community on a national level,” said Bianca Marquez, UTEP head coach and director of spirit operations. “Our cheer and dance teams are ambassadors of the spirit that is constantly on display at UTEP and throughout the city of El Paso.”
Marquez said the teams’ participation in the parade was the culmination of a dream for UTEP cheer and dance students, and a valuable opportunity for UTEP and El Paso to receive national exposure.
Prior to the parade, UTEP’s cheer and dance teams performed in their Miner uniforms for high school cheer and dance participants, parents and many others during rehearsal days in New York City. On parade day, UTEP’s teams donned Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade apparel.
As part of their trip, UTEP’s teams also participated in sightseeing and other activities such as attending a performance of Radio City Music Hall’s “Christmas Spectacular.”
