UTEP's master's in computer engineering produces students ready for technically demanding careers in industry. The program houses 11 labs, including the Power and Renewable Energy Systems (PRES) Research Laboratory, where students build skill sets in areas such as hardware and computer architecture, computer communications and networks, and software.

Kirsten Nicole Byers said faculty at the College of Engineering were essential to her success. Through UTEP's partnership with UC Irvine and its Machine Learning Repository, Byers presented meaningful findings that reveal efficient use of architectures amid computational complexity. Today, she is a software engineer at ExxonMobil.
