UTEP’s innovative M.S. in Intelligence and National Security Studies degree attracts students from around the world who have a passion for service and a taste for adventure. The program provides a strong grounding in theory and practice, and offers students opportunities to explore their own interests. Our students gain the knowledge and skills to succeed in the intelligence and national security communities.
The degree includes internship opportunities in El Paso, Washington, D.C., and communities overseas.
Experienced instructors, including intelligence community veterans, are subject matter experts.
The program’s teaching philosophy – online and in-person – is “Learning by Doing."
Greg Smith, an Army chief warrant officer 3 with a Fort Bliss (Texas) military intelligence unit, said the program honed his research and analytical abilities, which improved critical job skills and enhanced his marketability. He plans to continue to serve in the Army until retirement, and then pursue a Ph.D. in intelligence as he transitions to a civilian job in intelligence or law enforcement.
Some of this program’s graduates have built careers in the military, law enforcement, and intelligence, while others found success with defense contractors and financial institutions. Our alumni also pursue law or doctoral degrees.
