The program's long-term vision is to create a new generation of doctoral graduates to lead industry innovation and bring jobs to the Paso del Norte region. From drone operations and lunar exploration, to manufacturing biomedical innovations and 3D printing biosensors, mechanical engineering students have many opportunities for exciting hands-on experience on impactful aerospace projects.
Jaime E. Regis described his desire to earn a degree as a difficult task coming from modest means. But he persevered. Once at UTEP, he quickly found a passion for research through experiences with the Aerospace Center. Regis works in the Functional and Energy Material Systems (FEMS) Lab, where he is developing functional composites fabricated through 3D printing.
UTEP is a top 25 producer of mechanical engineering undergraduate degrees in the nation. Graduates find work in the aerospace, systems, biomedical, robotics and defense sectors as well as the energy sector.
