Zachary Buschmann was drawn to UTEP after his undergraduate studies because of the research opportunities in the Electronic Structure Lab. Buschmann thrived in El Paso, conducting research in density functional theory. His work was recognized as the College of Science’s Best Thesis. Today, Buschmann is an Accelerator Operations Engineer at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in California, where his work explores how the universe functions at the biggest, smallest and fastest scales.
Physics graduates can either continue on to doctoral studies or find a physics-related job in industry, government labs, or teaching. With the strong problem-solving skills students gain through physics studies, they can continue on to law, medical or business school as well. One of the major sectors of employment for physics graduates is the software industry where problem-solving skills are needed.
