Pedro Estrada Jr. enjoyed tinkering with computers. When an adviser told him to pursue software engineering at UTEP, he flourished. His work in UTEP's CyWAR lab landed him in the Scholarship for Service program, funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security, which fast-tracked him to a master's degree. Today, he is a threat analyst in the private sector in Maryland.
Experts in software engineering work in almost every industry and major corporations such as Microsoft, Cisco and Intel have hired UTEP graduates to join their sprawling teams of developers to keep operations running efficiently.
