Teaching, Learning and Culture, Ph.D.

This program prepares professionals to study learning through a variety of perspectives to improve education, especially in the U.S.-Mexico border region. Whether they choose to study topics that influence language and literacy learning, participate in cutting-edge research on STEM education, or examine how sociocultural perspectives and contexts influence schools and communities, the program equips students with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact.

Using Research in the Classroom

Doctoral student Laura Salazar wanted to expand her knowledge of the latest research in early childhood education and bring it back to the classroom. She entered the program as a dual-language elementary school teacher but has since used what she’s learned in the program to thrive as an instructional technology specialist. In this role, she focuses on education strategy, content production and using the latest technology to help her students succeed.
