Across the country, schools are facing an increasing number of bilingual students with special needs. These students need teachers who can provide a quality education in an inclusive environment. The Master of Education in Special Education with a concentration in Bilingual Special Education will empower teachers to create a more culturally and linguistically responsive classroom that ensures success for all students.

Alumna Uses Degree to Better Serve Students

Brenda Matamoros chose the M.Ed. in Special Education because of its focus on students with high incidents disabilities and mental health interventions. The program's flexible schedule appealed to her. Her goal was to learn how to better serve students with different abilities in the mental health arena, in school campuses and in post-secondary transition programs. Now, as a Transition/Behavior Intervention Specialist for the Canutillo Independent School District, she is using the coursework and field experience she received at UTEP to implement mental health interventions that have demonstrated positive outcomes for her students.
