Anthropology at UTEP is special because it focuses on the U.S.-Mexico borderlands (as well as other areas), environmental justice, migration, and medical sociology/anthropology.
Growing up in a low-income family motivated Cathy Román to pursue a college degree to improve her future. As an undergraduate at UTEP, she conducted research on maternal health and borders and also studied abroad in Spain. Today, Cathy is pursuing a Ph.D. in sociocultural anthropology at UCLA.
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is recognized for its focus on the U.S.-Mexico region. UTEP graduates work for universities, community organizations, government agencies, groups that assist migrants, museums and other heritage sites.
