UTEP's microbiology curriculum focuses on chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics to build a strong foundation for medical or graduate school, pharmaceuticals or industry. Students will learn about areas ranging from infectious diseases and immunology to environmental and industrial microbiology, and have many opportunities to do research as an undergraduate.

Victoria Rosas wants to be a health care professional to help the El Paso region. While in school, Rosas held leadership positions including serving as a student liaison for the American Society for Microbiology. She is currently working toward becoming a physician’s assistant.
Microbiology graduates work in entry-level industrial jobs, clinical-medical laboratories and government agencies. Outside of laboratories, graduates work in pharmaceuticals, laboratory and research equipment supply, hospitals and public health organizations.
