Public health graduates are prepared to help control disease while promoting and improving the health of their communities. The major prepares public health professionals and health education specialists who work to understand community disease, particularly disease that affects border communities, and help individuals make informed decisions about lifestyle and personal health behaviors.
Graduates are eligible for national certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist

From studying the health effects of dust storms to analyzing El Paso’s response to COVID-19, public health students involved in Dr. Gabriel Ibarra-Mejia’s environmental health research will have the opportunity to shape policy outcomes that will affect the region’s quality of life.
UTEP public health graduates meet the demand for the next generation of health and human service professionals. With two-thirds of graduates choosing to stay in the region, many UTEP alumni are addressing the health care needs of the border.
