Women’s and Gender Studies students explore diverse topics related to women, gender and sexuality. Students have the opportunity to present their research and participate in the annual Women's and Gender Studies conference and in the Femme Frontera film showcase. The program also connects students with internships, community engagement experiences and study abroad trips.
Veronica Torres uses what she learned at UTEP daily as an investigator in the El Paso region of the Texas Department of Protective Services. The first-generation college student said the Women's and Gender Studies Program gives students a fresh, positive perspective on the world. As a student, she completed an internship with the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence and is now employed in her dream career.
The demand for expertise on gender issues is growing in the professions of law, health care, social work, teaching, counseling and government service. Specialists in gender are sought out as consultants in education and industry.
