Dr. Sue Stanfield

Associate Professor, Department of History

How is Sue engaging students in the classroom?

Sue creates her own podcast where she invites guests to share their expertise on topics related to her U.S. History courses. Students listen to these podcasts on their time and then reflect about their experience in online discussion forums. Introducing guests into her classroom breathes life into her course content, capturing students' interest and boosting their engagement.

What do students think?

They like it. According to one student, “This is the best online class I ever took.” The unique approach, where it feels like a group of experts is instructing rather than just one instructor, resonates well with them. Sue consistently receives high ratings on end-of-term reviews, partly due to the podcasts, which have significantly enhanced the learning experience.

What’s Next?

Sue is creating a database of primary history resources that both instructors and students can access to make coursework more engaging.
