Entrepreneurial Skills for Career Success

The skills needed to build a successful business – growth mindset, creativity, critical thinking and leadership – are the skills needed to build a successful career. Our programming helps students hone these innovation skills so they can compete in the job market and realize their potential. We draw from across the Blackstone network to offer students a wide range of internship and career readiness opportunities. We also offer both on-demand digital and on-campus, in-person skills-building programs – with a particular focus on campuses that might not otherwise be able to provide these kinds of resources.

How can you apply innovation skills to your future career?

In today's workforce, employers are looking to hire people with innovation skills – the same fundamentals needed to build a successful career. These skills are vital for all professionals, regardless of their field of study or desire to start or own a company. This series will focus on four key pillars of an innovation skill set: growth mindset , creativity , critical thinking , and leadership :

Growth mindset: Individuals with a growth mindset are self-aware of their abilities and believe they can improve through learning, feedback, and persistence. They are curious and eager to understand challenges; they adapt their behavior in response and drive forward.

Creativity: Individuals with high creativity design innovative solutions to problems. They leverage their vision and imagination to conceptualize original ideas and to identify resources they can use toward solutions.

Critical thinking: Individuals with strong critical thinking abilities effectively analyze complex information to identify patterns and draw key insights. They evaluate evidence and perspectives to form a judgment or make key decisions.

• Leadership: Skilled leaders are self-motivated and passionate. Their drive helps them face and overcome risk or obstacles and continually pursue their goals. They are strong communicators who work as well with teams as they do independently, and their empathy helps them attract and win over new supporters.
