Controlled Unclassified Information Training

All personnel interacting with or otherwise handling Controlled Unclassified Information, whether appointed, funded, or not, including PI’s, CoPI’s, senior personnel, student researchers, research administrators, etc., must take the below training.   It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator   to ensure all relevant personnel on a project meet training requirements and submit training certificates to the appropriate authority.

Each training module takes about 1 hour to complete, and must be renewed annually for as long as you require access to CUI information.

Training Modules

  1. DoD Mandatory Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Training
  2. Insider Threat Awareness
  3. Phishing & Social Engineering Training: Virtual Communication Awareness

Before handling CUI in any form, follow these steps to take the training modules and submit certificates:

  1. Click each link to be redirected to the training web page.
  2. Follow the steps on the training page to launch the training module.
  3. Upon completion of the training module, enter your first and last name on the certificate generation page.
  4. Print the certificate and save it to a secure location on your system. Best practice is to keep all training certificates in a compliance folder.
  5. After saving the certificate, email a copy to   security@utep.edu  and   rso@utep.edu.
  6. You will then receive an acknowledgement email from   rso@utep.edu  certifying completion of the modules.

After completing the training, consult with the University RSO and the UTEP Information Security Office to ensure the environment in which you plan to work is fully compliant with CUI law, regulation, and policy.
