UTEP Space Center

At the Epicenter of
America’s Space Industry

The University of Texas at El Paso is at the forefront of America’s goal to venture further into the stars. The campus’ location in West Texas, between Spaceport America, Blue Origin, Los Alamos National Lab and Sandia National Laboratories, places UTEP at the epicenter of America’s efforts in the space industry. Degree programs in aerospace and mechanical engineering give students hands-on experience conducting research for leaders in the space industry such as Lockheed Martin and the Department of Defense. Partnerships with the U.S. Space Force and NASA, to name a few, push the boundaries of innovation as we create technology to mine water on the moon, and educate astronauts through mission and field simulations.

Training the Next Generation of Aerospace Engineers

UTEP’s Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering offers a bachelor’s degree in aerospace and aeronautical engineering, and B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering. Students conduct research with NASA, Lockheed Martin, Blue Origin and more, and find plentiful opportunities for campus employment as research assistants on projects that explore vital issues in space exploration and technology.
