The School of Pharmacy is committed to developing pharmacists with IDEAL (Innovation, Diversity, Engagement, Access, and Leadership) attributes who will become leaders in the field and in their community. We do this by providing our students with unique learning opportunities, such as study away, capstone research, and service learning.


Students interested in pursuing admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program at UTEP can begin their preparation for this in many of the College of Science undergraduate degree programs.

DIVE INTO YOUR DISCIPLINE

We partner with hospitals and other health science centers to provide an educational setting where pharmacy students work with other healthcare students, such as medical, nursing, and physical therapy students, to give you firsthand experience working as an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

PREPARE FOR YOUR FUTURE

Pharmacy students complete a capstone Project with a faculty mentor. This scholarly project can focus on improving pharmacy practice, education, or research in fields such as medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, psychiatry, and pediatrics. Here are some pharmacy-related areas that you can choose to pursue with a Pharm.D.:

 

  • Community pharmacy, such as a retailer or drugstore
  • Hospital or institutional pharmacy
  • Ambulatory care pharmacy, including patient care
  • Pharmacy specialties such as pediatrics, psychiatry, nutrition
  • Pharmacy practice in the armed services
  • Public health
  • Pharmaceutical research and development
  • Academic pharmacy (become a faculty member)
