Mission, Vision, and Purpose
The University Career Center has as its mission the career development of the students and alumni of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP); to assist in relating their knowledge, interests, and skills to meaningful career options; to inculcate in them the sense of professionalism required for success; to aid them in their search for pre-professional and professional employment; to ease their transition from the University to a productive career; and to assist them as they navigate the world of work.
The University Career Center will be recognized within and beyond the UTEP community for excellence in providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art programs and services to advance the career development and employment opportunities of its students and alumni.
Our purpose is to expose UTEP students to options that best fit their individual career needs and aspirations. To that end, the Center provides: part-time and full-time job listings, internship – co-op – experiential learning opportunities, career and job fairs, career development workshops and presentations (e.g., resume writing, job search correspondence, interview preparation, negotiating a job offer, navigating a career fair, etc.), résumé reviews, on-campus interviews, and employer contacts.
The Career Center is the central department on the UTEP campus that oversees campus recruiting (UTEP’s Handbook of Operating Procedures). Within the University structure, the Career Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs. We utilize the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) self-assessment process to gauge the effectiveness of Student Affairs departments in the delivery of programs. We are a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and subscribes to the Principles for Professional Conduct.
