Who are the PCAs?
PCAs are students trained by the Career Center to help fellow students with resumes and cover letters, exploring career opportunities for their degree, internship assistance, interview guidance and more. There is a PCA for each college to focus on you specific needs. As students themselves, they can offer perspective having gone through similar experiences. They are available to meet one-on-one or virtually. Email pca@utep.edu to schedule an appointment.

Our Mission
The purpose of the Peer Career Advisor (PCA) Program is to provide career exploration, advising, and career development assistance, to students on a peer-to-peer level. Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) are trained to present in a variety of career development topics, to assist with student outreach, and to promote the importance of early and continuous career planning and preparation. The program is a collaborative effort between the University Career Center and the academic colleges.

What’s your Major
I’m currently majoring in Social Work and plan on going on to graduate school to obtain my Masters of Social Work.
What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor
Here at the University Career Center, I've learned how to be a professional model employee and communicate more efficiently in the workplace. These skills have been invaluable to my education and personal life. While accumulating these skills, I also have the opportunity to not just help myself, but others here in the university by using the training that I have been given to provide relevant and up-to-date information about a career to students.
What are you involved in on and off-campus
I am an officer for the National Alliance on Mental Illness on Campus and part of the University Honors Program. I recently had an internship in Rhinebeck, New York with a non-profit organization called Ramapo for Children where I worked with individuals with a variety of needs teaching them career and life skills to take home to be successful.

What’s your Major
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. I hope to obtain an internship to gain pre-professional experience in the health science field and eventually make my way into obtaining a Master’s Degree in Public Health.
What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor
As a Peer Career Advisor, I’ve learned how to enhance and perfect my communication skills. Additionally, I’m learning how to develop my professionalism in and out of the workplace. These skills that are beginning to develop have made me appreciate the great opportunities and resources that the Career Center has offered not just to me but to others, and how much the Career Center is guiding me into being my best self.
What are you involved in on and off-campus
I am part of the women’s fraternity Zeta Tau Alpha. I also volunteer with the student organization Texas Rising which encourages college students to register to vote and promote equality and social justice for Texans.

What’s your major?
I am currently pursuing a degree in Engineering Leadership. I find it compelling to learn about business, innovation, and engineering, which Engineering Leadership allows me to do. My goal I aspire to achieve when I graduate is to work for Tesla as an innovator and entrepreneur in hopes to have an influence to change the world.
What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor?
Becoming a Peer Career Advisor has empowered me to improve many skills and aspects through the various activities we perform. This opportunity has made both my strengths and weakness transparent, allowing me to grow and enhance myself on all aspects such as presenting and professionality. Communication is key to be a Peer Career Advisor, so I had to learn how to communicate efficiently and effectively with others to achieve the goals the University Career Center has for us.
What are you involved in on and off-campus?
I am a part of Mariachi Los Mineros as a guitarist and a violinist. I am also involved in the Honey Badgers eSports team.

What’s your Major
Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. It is interesting for me to learn about materials, their properties, and how they affect their production. After graduation, my goal is to pursue a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in hopes of one day applying engineering principles combined with biological knowledge to help create useful biomedical devices that aid in the medical field.

What are you involved in on and off-campus? I am currently a part of the University Honors Program at UTEP. I am also an active member of the Society of Women Engineers at UTEP (SWE) and the Material Advantage organization.

What’s your Major?
I am majoring in Environmental Science with a Biology concentration and a Communication minor. I plan to work at a nonprofit non-governmental organization that has an environmental focus.
I am a part of the University Honors Program here at UTEP, I am also a part of the University’s Green Team, a student organization focused on making the campus a more environment-friendly place. I have participated in UTEP’s Project Move and volunteer regularly with the Center for Civic Engagement, usually with the Downtown Artist's and Farmers Market. Off-campus, I do community service with my church and Rotary club friends.

I am currently majoring in Neuroscience, with the professional career goal of partaking in research in a laboratory to study Cognitive/Psychological disorders.What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor
As a Peer Career Advisor, I have been able to grow my professional toolkit. Whether it be through communication, different training, or interaction with the University Career Center staff, I know I will be well prepared for my career journey ahead of me as I better myself and anyone I can help as a Peer Career Advisor.

I am an active participant of the UTEP Dinner Theater, and love to perform!

What’s your Major?
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management with a minor in financing. I hope to obtain an internship to gain pre-professional experience in the logistics and financial world. I would like to later on pursue a Master’s in Business Administration.
What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor
Working for the Career Center as a PCA has given me the opportunity to gain a plethora of professional skills and strengthen other ones. As a PCA I have been able to enhance my communication skills effectively and learned the importance of having the correct tools for setting the most effective pathway towards your future.
What are you involved in on and off-campus
I am currently the Youth Group Coordinator at Saint Mark’s Catholic Church as well take part in organizing community service projects to help out the needed community of El Paso.

What’s your Major?
I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Innovation and Leadership with a concentration in Finance. I’m also looking to get an MBA before I graduate and to obtain at least one internship for an engineering or a finance position.
What have you learned as a Peer Career Advisor
As a Peer Career Advisor, I have been improving my communication as well as my leadership skills by presenting Career Center workshops and communicating effectively with my co-workers (PCA’s) and overall professional staff. I have also improved my time management skills and how to effectively balance school, work and extracurricular activities. In addition, I have been learning more of the great resources that the University Career Center provides to the students. Including, how to use them, where to find them, as well as helping other students get to know about these resources.
What are you involved in on and off-campus
I’m currently a member of the UTEP cheerleading team, I’m the Chairman of Community Service at the organization L.E.A.D. and an active member of the organization SWE (Society of Women Engineers).
